Even their seaweed looks better than ours...

San Clemente Pier
It's very humbling coming from the Gulf Coast area and visiting the West Coast. From the great beer selections to the ocean. We do have better highways and bigger trucks though...

The difficult road to getting great beer into a market...

We recently tapped the first ever keg of Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA at B&J'S Pizza in Corpus Christi. I actually felt a little melancholy as I raised a pint to celebrate the occasion.

All the hard work over the past year. Logistics, inventory, negotiations, etc...

When you drink this beer or any other great beer think about all the brewers, sales people, fleet departments, famers etc.... I could go on and on.

Have you seen Don Younger's butt?

During my last visit to Portland left, I was brought to the Horse Brass Pub by Chris from the Rogue brewery and was told the story about Don Younger. The only thing I knew about DY was from the Younger's Special Bitter that Rogue makes (it's named after DY'S late brother).

Chris proceeded to tell me how DY had kept Rogue alive during the early years and was a huge champion for craft beer in the early days. His public house gave breweries an outlet for great beer to be available to the public.

Live Oak Brewery in Austin, TX.

I was visiting Chip at the Live Oak Brewery in Austin, TX last year when I had the pleasure of sampling his great HefeWeizen. Amazing! If you're ever in ATX, you should stop by and sample his beers. This is one of the few breweries in Texas that makes amazing lager style beers.

Cheers!

Now that you mention it...

I'm reminded everyday that patience is paramount to the craft beer industry. Things don't change overnight and we need to remain calm and focused.

I had this gem at the Rogue Public House in San Francisco. It's a cask conditioned keg of Youngers Special Bitter.

Cheers!

Texas Beer Fest

I went to the Texas Beer Fest in Humble, Texas today. It was pleasant enough but somehow anticlimactic. I think the warm weather and distance from Houston "proper" affected turnout. I did leave early though. Around 4pm today.

I ran into my bro Cesar from Austin. He looks good and happy with his gal. Cheers my man!

Drinking good beer doesn't mean that you'll find double rainbows...

So my beer gal crush gave me the ego splatter last night. It started out well. Drinks, decent meal, great conversation and then....I went in for the kiss and got turned away like a Light beer salesman at Central Market.

What happened? Did I misread all her signs? Damn, sometimes it's easier to figure out final gravity on your homebrew than understanding women.

My ego hurts. Btw, did I mention that I drank a Negra Modelo...meh...

Cheers!
